Kitty Solaris is widely acknowledged as one of most interesting female songwriters in Berlin, and deservedly so. But with the release of her new album ‘Golden Future Paris’, you might ask yourself if this simple categorisation is selling her short.
The sounds of Berlin singer and guitarist Kitty Solaris are sparsely instrumental and at the crossroads of pop, folk, electronic and rock. She writes all her own material and works on demos in her kitchen in Prenzlauer Berg. In the studio, the songs are arranged and a few inspired elements added – a touch of the accordion here, a blast of the trumpet there, a hip-hop break or some Latin American rhythms – the end result is an uplifting mix of different sounds that nonetheless work together. After her debut release ‘Future Air Hostess’ and second album ‘My Home Is My Disco’, her latest venture is entitled ‘Golden Future Paris’: another CD title which you could almost paint a picture of – best of all as a vividly coloured cartoon with a speech bubble that reads ‘bravo!’
With the release of ‘Golden Future Paris’, Kitty Solaris has not only cemented her position as a leading recording artist in Germany’s capital, she has also elevated herself to the most influential female songwriter in the country. She’ll hopefully soon be joining the likes of PJ Harvey playing to sold-out audiences at the Admiralspalast on Friedrichstrasse. She deserves to be. (Source: Soundmag.de)
