Grassi Museum of Applied Art
In 2007, after extensive renovation lasting several years, the Grassi Museum of Applied Art opened the first of three parts to its new permanent exhibition.
The first section, spread over thirty rooms, is called ‘Antiquity to Historicism’ and spans 2,500 years of art. The second, entitled ‘Oriental Art’, opened on 31 January 2010. Its collection of hand-crafted items, most of which originate from China, Japan and Iran, bridge the gap between historicism and the modern age. The third section, ‘Art Nouveau to the Present Day’, is scheduled to open in autumn 2011. Visitors to the museum can also look forward to a series of temporary exhibitions and the annual Grassimesse trade fair in late October, a leading European marketplace for applied art and design.
